Draft, to be reviewed before launch.
Terms of use
These terms cover the Evensong Piano app and website. They are written to be read: if something is unclear, write to us.

Who we are
Evensong Piano is made by [your full name], in Québec, Canada (“we”). You can reach us at [contact email].
-
The app
Evensong is a piano course and practice app that runs in your browser, and in desktop and Android apps when they are available. It listens to your piano through the microphone, a MIDI cable or your computer keyboard.
The free version needs no account. Some parts of the app need an account and a plan, as shown in the app.
-
Your account
You need an email address to make an account. Keep access to it: we sign you in by email.
One account is for one person. You may use it on your own computers and devices.
You must be old enough to agree to these terms where you live, or have a parent or guardian agree for you.
-
The free trial
Each account can start one free trial of 7 days in the app. It asks for no card. When it ends, the account goes back to the free version and keeps everything you played; nothing is charged.
During the trial some Study chapters stay locked, as the app shows.
-
The beta account
Anyone who makes an account during the beta week, the first week after launch, gets the beta account: more of the app than the free version, as the app shows. It is free and stays with the account.
What each version contains may change over time, but a beta account will never have less than the free version.
-
Plans and billing
Plans are monthly, yearly or lifetime. Prices are shown on the website and at checkout, before you pay.
Payments are processed by Stripe. Stripe charges your card, adds any sales tax that applies where you live, and sends your receipt. Evensong never sees your card number.
Monthly and yearly plans renew automatically at the end of each period until you cancel. We will tell you by email at least 30 days before a price change takes effect for your plan, and you can cancel before it does.
During the first two weeks after launch, the yearly plan and lifetime are sold at an opening price, [30]% below the regular price. A yearly plan bought at the opening price keeps that price at every renewal, for as long as it stays active.
-
Cancelling
You can cancel a monthly or yearly plan at any time from the link in your receipt or in the app’s Settings. You keep the full app until the end of the period you paid for, then your account goes back to the free version with all your progress.
Refunds are explained in the refund policy.
-
Lifetime plans
A lifetime plan gives you the full app for as long as we offer Evensong, with the updates we make to it, without further payments. If we ever stop offering Evensong, we will give at least 90 days’ notice and leave the app working offline on the devices where it is installed, as far as we are able.
-
The music
The compositions in the library are in the public domain. The arrangements, lessons, texts and the app itself are ours, and you may use them to learn and to play, not to republish or sell.
Some scores and the piano sound come from other people under Creative Commons licences; they are credited in the app under Settings, About.
Music you import stays on your device. Only import music you are allowed to use.
-
Fair use
Please do not copy the app or its content to share it, get around the plan limits, resell access, or attack or overload our services. We may close an account that does, after telling you why.
-
Changes to the app and to these terms
We improve the app over time, and features may change. If we change these terms in a way that matters to you, we will tell you by email or in the app at least 30 days before, and you can cancel before the change applies.
-
Our responsibility
We work to keep Evensong available and correct, but it is offered as it is, and your practice data lives on your device: keep a backup (Settings, Your data).
Nothing in these terms limits the rights you have under Québec’s Consumer Protection Act or any other law that cannot be set aside by contract.
-
Law
These terms are governed by the laws of Québec and of Canada that apply there. If you live elsewhere, you keep the protections of the consumer law where you live.
The French version of these terms is here. Both versions have the same value.
